Habakkuk

This week we are going to look at a very short passage of scripture, Habakkuk 1: 1-11.

If you would like to keep reading on, I would encourage you to do so. It is a really cool book in the Bible and will give you a lot of questions to ask. If you thirst for theology and explanation, this is a good book for that!

There is one BIG MAJOR illustration that I want to make from this passage. Let's see if you can find it. If you can figure it out, there will be a prize! And to keep it fair, I'll let someone in on what it is that I"m talking about, so I can't say no one guessed it.

Haven't figured out what the prize will be yet, but it will be something fun. Perhaps some of you have a suggestion for the prize??????

  1. Habakkuk is frustrated, crying out and asking why a just God would allow these people to commit these horrible acts, and why they aren't being punished at all for the violence and all of the ways they disobey God by the acts they are participating in. Habakkuk wants to know why his prayers aren't being answered and why the violence hasn't ended. The response to him is that these things aren't being looked over at all, in fact, God has a plan for everything- and he's allowing a rise up of this bitter nation, to use them to commit acts against another group. He goes on to tell Habakkuk that there are things he wouldn't believe if He told Him. And the key to me, is when he says those people will remain guilty- meaning to me, that they are going to "get theirs" but there's work to be done by them first.
In summary: We often question God, but it's because we don't have all of the answers. We know in our hearts that He has a specific plan for each of us, but if we see with our eyes that His plan is not what we are asking for it to be, then our faith can start to falter. We can't question the unknown, we just have to trust God's plan for us. Because in the end, we can't change anything- we won't be judged on what others have done, we will be judged on what we have done, and what we've done to spread The Word to others. They will be responsible for themselves. We don't have to question where God is at- He's everywhere, He's all-knowing, and everyone and everything will be handled accordingly!
